Pelletheads.com and Memphis Wood Fire Grills™ Team Up to Win 3rd Place at the 31st American Royal BBQ Contest
Minneapolis, MN, October 11, 2010 - Since its inception in 1980, The American Royal Barbecue Contest has become the largest barbecue contest in the world. Combined with a barbecue-trade show, this two-day, fun-filled festival draws nearly 70,000 people annually and is truly the “World Series of Barbecue.”
Spreading over 20 acres in Kansas City, the American Royal Barbecue has an Open Contest and an Invitation Contest that draws over 500 competitive teams. The barbecue teams that participate in the Open Contest may consist of simple family or friend gatherings, while some are groups associated with various corporations or charities. The Grand Champion of the Open Contest can then compete in the next year’s Invitational American Royal BBQ, as can the previous five year Grand Champions from the Invitational.
To qualify for the Grand Championship, all competing teams must prepare barbecued meats in four categories: chicken, pork ribs, beef brisket, and pork shoulder or Boston butt. Five optional categories include sausage, beans, potatoes, vegetables, and dessert. A separate competition focuses on barbecue sauces.
The “steaks are high” for the Open Contest, with a Grand Champion prize of $12,500, a trophy, and an automatic invitation to the American Royal Invitational Contest and Jack Daniel’s Barbecue Championship! This year a first-time contender and dark horse, “Pelletheads.com” took everyone by surprise and won third place in the overall category.
Pelletheads.com is a successful barbecue website and blog recognized among avid barbecue grillers and foodies as one of the leading pellet BB-Q sites with nearly 500,000 hits per month. Pelletheads.com growth coincides with the significant increase of pellet grill usage for barbecue competitions.
As its weapon of choice, Pelletheads.com used Memphis Wood Fire Grills™ to barbecue its award-winning meats to perfection. Most teams incur sleepless nights in an effort to maintain consistent temperatures in their grills or wood fires. But the Memphis Grills has a convection air system and Intelligent Temperature Control™ (ITC) that automatically maintains your set temperature.
This cutting-edge technology enables the food to be left unattended for extended periods of time and provides consistent temperatures through the ITC regulation of the wood pellets. The Memphis 3-in-1 grill, smoker, and convection oven produces temperatures from 180 to 650 degrees and supplies the perfect blend of convenience and delicious wood-fired flavors.
Hearthland Products™, the manufacturer of the Memphis Wood Fire Grill™, congratulates the team members of Pelletheads.com for their extraordinary win and other achievements in the barbecue industry.
